Flowers, about flowers and about floral trends in Calgary

Flowers are not only nice fragrances, but good emotions, traditions and life brightness. Here is my review about the flowers, history floral expansion and new trends in Calgary.
First of all I personally like Japanese Ikebana style.

Japanese floral school exists so long and has so many directions that here always room to learn about beautiful nature. Total idea of Japanese arrangement is while you creating it you should think about perfection each stem in your hand, each leaf in a stem, balance and proportion.
Centuries of experiments of arranging flowers the Japanese masters collected in manuscripts the rules how to perfect size, texture and forms for pleasant viewing. It has philosophical message: “Enjoy that you touching, seeing, knowing and giving away”. Nature is beauty, even a bitten leaf can be organic in an arrangement!

Here in Canada we are designing with American floral basics, bunching huge amount of flowers, almost in production quantities together.
Clear example of it- a round wedding bouquet- no foliage, no play with colours- just simplicity and bulkiness.

American style is a combination 3-5 types flowers, packed head to head, greenery (as little accent) and cone wrapping on top of it. I assume that philosophy of American style is price value. How much cost- so much appreciated gift.

Totally different story about European school of floral decoration.

Massive floral recognition started in medieval age. Romantic people wanted to send secret messages and the  flowers became had meaningful contest. For example, Red Rose- love, Olive branch –peace and Forget-me-not flowers still keep some history now. Flowers in vases where so wild and chaotic looking  but it allowed people to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken.

Later floristry bloomed everywhere- accessories as head pieces, boutonnieres, corsages, table-center –pieces, floor arrangements, nosegays, wall decoration, garlands, topiaries, winter gardens, healing botanicals, insects-keep-away plants, trophy and wide-world plants  discoveries.

Now floral European bouquets are in trend and fashion.

I can say lots of different types of foliage is important on European style bouquet. It has to be airy and transparent. When I look at floral design created in Europe I imagine bridges with curled iron forge, Baroque facades, Beaux-Arts architecture with many accents and fine –finished details that make splendid statement for all present moment.

Now in Calgary many florists start to combine European influence and richness of American traditions creating over sized, heavy decorated and massive arrangements. Tropical flowers , unique garden flowers, sparkly crystals, natural mosses, shells, wood pieces are available for design.
